Teach English in Austria as a TEFL teacher.
Austria is an excellent place to work as a TEFL teacher – with high pay and clean air, gorgeous countryside and friendly people. To get a feel for teaching in Austria, do a summer camp -there are lots of schools in Austria that do summer schools. Summer camps are big business over there and the pay is quite high for TEFL teaching in Europe. Language schools and ESL agencies pay from €25-35ph but your tax is quite high.
Austria is full of such rich cultural offerings and traditions, many of them left over from the time when Vienna was the seat of a powerful empire. These days, the capital’s imperial buildings may seem a bit grand and oversize for this small country. But there is nothing diminished about the country’s romantic streak or its passion for rituals, whether in the coffee house, the church or the grand ballroom. Austria seems to blend a kind of Italian romanticism with a Germanic love for order.
There are no real dangers here and it is reported to be one of the safest countries in all of Europe! It has a very low crime rate, especially in regard to violent crime. Austrians are very friendly. It’s surprising how little German you need to function. When you go out for dinner, it is customary to leave a small tip. Don’t leave 15%! Before you start drinking (usually just alcoholic drinks) you say “Prost” (“cheers”), glasses clicking. That’s not enough! ALWAYS look into each other’s eyes when saying “Prost”! It’s very impolite in Austria when not doing so.
