How the online TEFL course works

You apply online, an adviser confirms your level, and after payment you receive a username and password. You then study each module online at your own pace, complete multiple-choice quizzes and assignments (plus lesson plans or projects at higher levels), and receive a blockchain-verifiable certificate when you finish.

Step by step

  • Fill in the online application or quick enquiry form.
  • An admissions adviser explains the course and confirms your level.
  • Pay online in INR, USD or GBP and receive your login.
  • Study each module and complete its multiple-choice questions; the answer key is emailed to you for review.
  • Submit assignments: lesson plans, projects or case studies at Diploma level and above, graded by tutors.
  • Complete the final assignment and receive your certificate.

Teaching method

The courses use Communicative Language Teaching (CLT): learners use English in meaningful conversation and practice, which is what modern schools and online platforms expect.

Tutor and mentor support

Tutors and course coordinators answer questions by email, phone and WhatsApp. Diploma levels and above include access to a senior mentor with more than 35 years of ESL experience.

Teaching practice

Teaching practice is optional. If you have never taught, arrange sessions with a school or institute near you; London College of Teachers provides a recommendation letter for the internship.

Study time

The 120-hour Certificate is designed for up to 4 months, the Diploma 5 months, the Advanced Diploma 9 months, the PG Diploma 14 months and the Master in TEFL 16 months. You can finish sooner, and fast-track is available on the higher levels.

What you need to study

  • A computer, tablet or phone with internet access (a laptop is easiest for assignments)
  • An email address and WhatsApp for support
  • A word processor for lesson plans and assignments
  • Around 6 to 10 hours a week, depending on how fast you want to finish

How assessment works in detail

Every module ends with multiple-choice questions. The answer key is emailed to you, so you can check your understanding and correct mistakes before moving on. From Diploma level upwards you also write lesson plans, projects or case studies, which tutors grade. A final assignment completes the course.

After you finish

You receive your certificate from London College of Teachers Limited (UKPRN 10096558), issued on the blockchain so employers can verify it. You can then add a specialism, progress to a higher level, or start applying for jobs online and abroad.

A sample four-month plan for the 120-hour Certificate

  • Month 1: modules 1–3 (teaching English, methodologies, language acquisition)
  • Month 2: modules 4–6 (grammar, phonology, vocabulary)
  • Month 3: modules 7–8 (lesson planning, drama and games) and first lesson plans
  • Month 4: module 9 (the four skills), final assignment and optional teaching practice

Support while you study

Questions about content go to your tutor; questions about your account, payments or certificate go to admissions. Both are available by email, phone and WhatsApp. Diploma levels and above also include access to a senior mentor with more than 35 years of ESL experience.
